Character Background
Toji Fushiguro was born into the Zenin Clan, one of the three great noble families in the jujutsu world. The Zenin Clan is a family that places extreme importance on bloodline and the inheritance of cursed techniques; family members who possess powerful cursed techniques are valued and put to use, while those who do not are discriminated against and ostracized.
However, Toji's birth was an "anomaly." He was born without any cursed energy, which in the Zenin Clan, where jujutsu was paramount, was tantamount to being sentenced to social death. Having no cursed energy meant he couldn't become a sorcerer or inherit the family business—in the eyes of the Zenin Clan, he was nothing more than a worthless piece of trash. Young Toji suffered inhumane treatment within the Zenin Clan. He was locked away in a warehouse filled with curses, treated as a lowly person, and endured the cold stares and abuse from his family. The prominent scar at the corner of his mouth stands as proof of his tragic childhood in the Zenin Clan.
This experience planted a deep seed of hatred in Shier's heart. He hated the Zenin Clan, hated the jujutsu world, and hated this twisted world that judged a person's worth by their cursed energy. Eventually, Shier left the Zenin Clan and abandoned the surname "Zenin." He married an ordinary woman, took his wife's surname "Fushiguro," and had a son—who would later become Megumi Fushiguro. However, his wife died young, and while Shier raised his son alone, he also embarked on the bloody path of becoming a "Sorcerer Killer."
In the TV version, he appears in Season 2’s “Hidden Inventory” arc. He was pierced through half his body by Satoru Gojo’s post-awakening technique, “Hollow Technique: Purple,” and died from severe injuries. Before his death, he entrusted his son Megumi Fushiguro to Satoru Gojo.
