Falcom announces new Tokyo Xanadu game for series' 10th anniversary
At the 2026 Taipei Game Show, Nihon Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo revealed that the company is currently developing the latest sequel in the "Tokyo Xanadu" series. Set in Kyoto, this title will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the original game's release.
Series Recap
"Tokyo Xanadu" was first released on the PlayStation Vita platform in September 2015. It is an action RPG set in modern-day Japan. The story follows high school student Kou Tokisaka as he and his companions battle against entities from the Other World. An enhanced version of the game, "Tokyo Xanadu eX+," was later released for PS4 and PC, receiving widespread acclaim from players.
New Release Information
Falcom had already revealed the existence of a new "Xanadu" project back in March 2024, and this recent statement from President Kondo confirms that the project is still under continuous development. The new title will shift the setting from Tokyo to the ancient capital of Kyoto, and is expected to bring a brand-new worldview and story.
As a famous historical and cultural city in Japan, Kyoto boasts numerous shrines, temples, and traditional streets, forming a stark contrast with the modern urban style of "Tokyo Xanadu." Players are full of anticipation for how this ancient capital will be combined with the series' unique "Other World" elements.
President Kondo also revealed that March 2026 will mark the company's 45th anniversary. In addition to the sequel to "Tokyo Xanadu," the company is simultaneously developing the sequel (final chapter) to "Kai no Kiseki," a new title in the "Ys" series, and a completely new original IP game.
Nihon Falcom Corporation was established in March 1981. The current president is Toshihiro Kondo. Starting out with PC games, Falcom is known for titles such as the Dragon Slayer series, The Legend of Heroes series, and the Ys series, pioneering the genres of Action RPG (ARPG) and Japanese RPG (JRPG).
Falcom is expected to hold a major announcement event in February 2026, where more game information updates may be revealed. Please stay tuned!
