Butta Gets a New Look! DrawMarket's First Art Contest Is Now Live🎉
DrawMarket's mascot Butta is going global! Our first "Butta Redesign Contest" is officially here, with a prize pool of up to $4,500. Whether or not you're a DrawMarket artist, everyone is welcome to join and create freely. Read on for the full contest rules and how to enter — come design a brand-new look for Butta!
I. Contest Theme: Butta Redesign
Butta was originally an otter. She came from the distant East and is now swimming toward a broader world ahead.
Where will she go? The ocean, outer space, dreams, or the future? In a new time and space, what will she grow into? Please create a brand-new character design for her~
Whether it’s her hair color, eye color, skin tone, or outfit, you can redesign Butta however your inspiration leads you! There are no restrictions on the artwork content, such as character design, scene illustrations, chibi, and more.
Below are the core anchor points for mascot girl Butta for all artists to reference:
- otter motif, humanoid girl: You may keep some otter traits (ears/tail/paws/water-element vibe...), to whatever extent you like
- DrawMarket logo elements: hair accessory / badge or other symbols; any form is acceptable as long as it fits the theme
- Personality: Loves drawing; gentle and warm, outgoing and lively, always happy to help, occasionally tsundere—an aura that's "warm yet spirited."

V. Judging & criteria
How we judge
Gold and Silver: chosen by us (with our judging panel) on the work’s merits —
- (i) originality and creativity of the redesign;
- (ii) technical skill and quality of execution;
- (iii) how well it captures Butta and fits the creative brief;
- (iv) overall visual impact and
- (v) strong engagement within Event page and social media.
Judges’ Special: chosen independently by our invited panel for a unique perspective or standout potential.
Popularity: the eligible entry with the highest genuine Event page and social-media engagement on the required posts (likes, shares and comments on posts that use the required hashtags and tag our official accounts), as measured and verified by us. We disregard any bot, paid, incentivized or otherwise manipulated engagement.
Our decisions are final. We publish the judging criteria on the Event page.
VI. Rules and Terms
The detailed rules and terms are below. By entering, you agree to these Rules and to the Draw.Market Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
Eligibility & your work
- Your entry must be your own original work, created for this Event and not previously published or entered in another contest. No copying, tracing or plagiarism.
- AI: You may use AI tools for brainstorming, ideas, references or concepts. But the artwork you submit must be 100% human-made by you — do not submit any image, or part of an image, that is generated or produced by AI. Ordinary digital drawing tools and software (e.g., Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint) are completely fine. Keep your working files (layered PSD/CSP/Procreate files, and a timelapse if you have one) so we can check originality. We may ask for them, and we may disqualify any entry we reasonably believe breaks these rules.
- Each work can win only one prize, and each person can win only one cash prize.
- Our employees, our affiliates’ employees, our judges, and their immediate families may not enter.
- Minors: Where a minor is permitted to enter, verifiable parental/guardian consent is required, any prize is paid to the parent/guardian, and a minor’s personal data is handled per the DrawMarket Privacy Policy.
- Any use of bots, crawlers, vote/like-inflation tools, or paid or incentivized voting is prohibited and will result in disqualification.
Content standards
- Entries must not contain content that is unlawful under your local law or the laws that apply to us or the Event, or that: incites or promotes hatred or discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability; is excessively violent, gory or gratuitously disturbing; is pornographic, sexually explicit or sexually suggestive; infringes any third party’s rights (reputation, likeness, intellectual property, trade secrets) or discloses others’ private or personal information; is deliberately false or misleading; or is spam or advertising.
- The Organizer may remove any such entry without notice. If an entry breaches these Rules and causes loss to any third party, the entrant is solely responsible and will indemnify the Organizer and the third party.
Platform rules
- Entrants are responsible for checking and complying with the current promotion and content rules of each platform they post on (X, Instagram, Facebook). The Event is not sponsored, endorsed by, or associated with any of these platforms, and entrants release the platforms from any claim relating to the Event. You are giving your information to us, not to X, Instagram or Facebook.
Intellectual property
- Using our mascots and marks. We grant you a limited, personal, non-commercial, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Butta character and the DrawMarket name and logos only to create, submit and post your entry for this Event, following any brand guidelines we give you. All goodwill from that use belongs to us, and this licence ends when the Event ends or when we ask you to stop. You may not use our mascots or marks for anything else, or let anyone else do so, without our prior written consent.
- Intellectual property in the mascots Butta and their character settings remains with the Organizer and does not transfer under this Event. Entrants may not make commercial use of mascot elements, or authorize any third party to do so, without the Organizer’s prior written consent.
- Winning works — you keep ownership, you give us a broad licence. You keep ownership of and copyright in your work. By entering, if your work wins you grant us and our affiliates a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licensable and transferable licence to use, host, reproduce, publish, display, adapt, modify, translate, create derivative works from, and distribute your work (in whole or part), in any media now known or later developed, for our business, brand, marketing and promotional purposes, including to develop, evolve or promote our mascots and brand. We will credit you as the author where reasonably practical. To the extent the law allows, you consent to these uses and waive (or agree not to assert) any moral rights that would otherwise prevent them; where a waiver is not allowed, you agree not to object. Because Butta is our original design, you remain free to use and license your own work but limited to personal and non-commercial use.
- Your promises. You confirm that your entry is your own original work, that you own or control all rights in it, that you are free to grant the licences above, that no one else (including any agency, employer or collecting society) has rights that conflict, that it is not AI-generated, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or break any law. You will cover us for any loss caused if these promises turn out to be untrue.
- Non-winning entries: each entrant grants the Organizer a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display and reproduce the entry solely to run and promote the Event and DrawMarket (e.g., contest galleries, recaps, Event marketing). No other commercial use is made of non-winning entries.
- If a third party infringes an entry, the entrant may authorize the Organizer to enforce the rights in the Organizer’s own name.
Tax & payment
- All prize amounts are stated before tax. The Organizer will withhold or deduct tax where required by law, and the winner receives the amount net of any required withholding. Each winner is responsible for declaring and paying their own taxes under the laws applicable to them, and for providing the identity and payment information the Organizer reasonably requests.
- We pay prizes in US dollars through a licensed third-party payment provider (for example PayPal or a licensed payment/transfer provider). You’ll need an account with that provider and will need to complete its verification (KYC) before we can pay you. The provider collects your bank and payment details directly, under its own terms and privacy policy, not us. Currency-conversion or transfer fees charged by the provider, and any tax we must withhold, may reduce the amount you receive. If a prize can’t be paid because you don’t register with or pass the provider’s checks, we’re not responsible for the resulting delay or non-payment.
- All payouts are subject to compliance and sanctions screening. The Organizer may withhold or cancel any payment prohibited by applicable law or sanctions, or where the recipient is in a restricted jurisdiction.
Privacy
- For all entrants (including non-winners): the Organizer collects only your email address, social-media handle(s), your submission and other information needed to run, judge and make announcement of the Event.
- For prize winners and shortlisted finalists: we collect only what we need to run the Event, check eligibility, screen against sanctions lists, and arrange your prize — your name, age, country/region, and contact details (email; a postal address only if you win physical merchandise); your age or proof of guardian consent only where you are a minor. We share your name and country with our payment provider and sanctions-screening tools. We do not collect your bank account, card or other financial/KYC details — the licensed payment provider collects those directly.
- The Organizer processes this information for the purposes above and otherwise in accordance with the DrawMarket Privacy Policy, and retains it only for as long as needed for the Event and for legal, tax and audit purposes. How your information is handled, including any transfers and the safeguards applied, is described in the DrawMarket Privacy Policy. Children's data is handled specifically in accordance with the DrawMarket Privacy Policy.
Organizer’s rights
- The Organizer may amend, suspend, cancel or extend the Event, correct errors, and disqualify entries, acting reasonably; material changes will be notified via the Event page or official channels.
- By entering, you consent to the Organizer using your name/handle, entry and likeness to announce results and to promote the Event and DrawMarket (where a market requires explicit consent, it is given by entry).
General
- Where the Event is available. The Event is void where prohibited. We may exclude entrants from, or not run the Event in, any country where it would be unlawful, would need a licence, registration or bond, or would otherwise be unduly burdensome, and where sanctions or law prevent us paying a prize.
- Checks. We may verify your identity, age and eligibility, and may require a winner to sign a short eligibility/originality declaration, confirm the IP licence, and complete any tax forms before we pay.
- Prizes. If we don’t receive enough qualifying entries, we may decide not to award a prize or to award fewer prizes; we may substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Prizes are not transferable and can’t be exchanged for cash beyond the stated amount.
- Disqualification and clawback. We may disqualify any entry or entrant that breaks these Rules, and reclaim a prize if we later find a breach or ineligibility. All our decisions on eligibility, originality, AI use and winner selection are final and at our discretion.
- Liability. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss connected with the Event, and our total liability to you is limited to the value of the prize you were eligible to win. Nothing here excludes any liability that can’t be excluded by law.
- Other. These Rules don’t create any partnership, agency or employment between us. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a rule isn’t a waiver. We may assign these Rules within our group.
Prize collection & disputes
- After the work is publicized within Event page, questions about a entrant’s eligibility or originality may be raised with the Organizer through DrawMarket in-platform support, by email to the Organizer’s official address, or by direct message to the official DrawMarket X / Instagram accounts.
- After the winner list is announced, the Organizer will finalize the prizes within 30 business days and arrange payment based on the identity and payment information provided; physical merchandise is shipped, or a redemption code provided, within 30 business days.
- Winners must provide accurate prize-collection information within 14 business days of our notice; if a winner does not respond after reasonable notice and reminders, the prize is forfeited.
Organizer & applicable terms
- The Event is run by Draw.Market, operated by Hong Kong Netease Interactive Entertainment Limited (the “Organizer”).
- By entering, you confirm you have read and agree to these Rules, the DrawMarket Terms of Use (https://draw.market/doc/user-agreement) and the DrawMarket Privacy Policy (https://draw.market/doc/privacy-policy), which form part of and apply together with these Rules. Governing law, jurisdiction, dispute resolution, participation by minors, and account/platform conduct are governed by the DrawMarket Terms of Use.
- These Rules are issued in English and Chinese and may be localized; the English version prevails, with translations provided for convenience.
